Helmet Law

Land Transportation Office (LTO) will start apprehending and fining motorcycle riders caught using substandard helmets next week, August 1. So all motorcycle drivers, make sure you buy protective helmets based on the standards set by the DTI before this law will be implemented. I agree on this since substandard helmets will never save one’s life in case of fatal accidents.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) authorized LTO law enforcers to stop moving motorcycles whose drivers and riders would be spotted not wearing protective motorcycle helmets bearing the Philippine Standard (PS) mark or the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) issued by the Bureau of Product Standards (BPS).

They will be fined:

P1,500 for the first offense

P3,000 for the second offense

P5,000 for the third offense

P10,000 for the fourth and succeeding offense plus the confiscation of the driver’s license.

They will also penalize motorcycle dealers who don’t provide the new standard protective motorcycle helmets to their customers.
