On Traveling Alone

Have you tried to travel abroad all by yourself?

I haven’t. The thought of traveling alone sounds very exciting and rewarding, don’t you think? I wish I can do that too. My place of destination is either in Bali Indonesia, Thailand or Cambodia, so I wont look like very different from their locals. Vietnam seems a nice place to visit too. For how long? Maybe a week or so.

I’d like to be able to eat breakfast at the same café each morning, drink a cup of tea while reading a good book and/or writing in my journal, take pictures around the town, visit temples and historical places, shop at the market in the evening, get to know the locals, walk and wander like there’s no tomorrow etc.

Can I really do it? Oh yes, I can and I will, I just don’t know when! Wala nang hindi kinakaya ang mga treinta años!

Meantime, since I don’t have time and many cash to spend, I probably am just going to travel alone in Baguio later this evening, will come back to reality tomorrow midnight or early Sunday morning. If all else fails, I might just end up wandering around Manila tomorrow. Luneta, anyone? LOL

Enjoy the nice weather!

  1. I tried it before. I was assigned to Vigan on my own before. Yung time na pag pumatak ang 6 pm, sarado na lahat ng tindahan pati Jolibee. :( walang makainan, walang mabilhan kahit chippy, pero it was a good experience. Natutuo akong kumain ng maaga. :)

  2. I have traveled mostly alone but frequently because it’s my work and not leisure.
It is terrifying and fulfilling at the same time, you become a student all over again, learning and groping as you go along. particularly in countries where English is not the language of survival.
Leisure trips I prefer to be with friends or family.
But I suggest, just do it! (a la Nike)
    Have fun!
    Cheerio!

    Hi Malen,

I tried it before.. Last 2005 in Hongkong.. Exciting and wala kang iintindihin na kasama.. Sarap! Basta may cash and map ka, oks na…

Basta ingat ka lang. Try a place na di gaanung malaki at accesible ang public utilities in case may mag-stalk sayo or mapag-tripan ka..

    Good luck!

@callceneterguy, wow! Parang time travel in the 18th century! I loveeee Vigan esp. at night. We missed their famous empanada when we visited last year, sayang! Hopefully, i can visit the place again. Oo nga, walang night life doon.

Hello there @Psycho Basher! I read your “How Many Things Have You Lived Through?” list and wow, you’ve been all over places, I envy you! The farthest I’ve travelled due to work is probably 500m only (from one bldg to another LOL). You must be living a nice life. Thank you for the encouragement. Yes, I will do it, someday. :)

@Yvette!!!! you toured HK alone! Although HK is very tourist friendly, I don’t think I could survive touring it alone since I don’t have that much sense of direction hahaha there’s just too many junctions, exits etc.
